7.10.2011 – The Confederation of Free Trade Unions of Macedonia (KSS) joined trade unions from all continents by marking the World's Decent Work Day with appropriate events. This day has, for over a decade now, been the day when unions from all over the world jointly send across a message for decent and dignified work for all people, work in compliance with international standards. This is ever more important because the Republic of Macedonia is a signing party to the Memorandum for implementation of the national Decant Work Program 2010-2013, in which decent work is identified as the essential element for improvement of the social sphere in the Republic of Macedonia. Hence, on October 7th in Hotel Biser in Struga, starting at 11.00, a presentation on the Decent Work Agenda was held by ILO National Coordinator for Macedonia, Mr. Emil Krstanovski. This presentation was followed by over hundred unionists, members, leaders, youth and women, including TU representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia. Also, representatives of UNASM AND SSM attended the presentation. All participants received brochures on decent work which describes the concept and key elements of the decent work. Participants in this event were also greeted by Mr. Ovidiu Jurka, Senior ILO Specialist for Workers' Activities at the Subregional Budpest office. In his address Mr. Jurka underlines the commitment of the ILO workers' team to help unions in the region in their eternal struggle for social justice and dignity for workers. He also congratulated social partners in Macedonia for their success with the signing of the National Minimum Wage Agreement. The presentation was followed by a press conference led by KSS President Rasko Miskoski together with UNASM President Slobodan Antovski and the ILO Coordinator Emil Krstanovski. This event was covered by national and local media of Macedonia and was assessed as very successful.
