As already announced the trade unions from EU member candidates (Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia, Croatia) and Slovenia reached agreement on establishing a Regional Trade Union Council with the goal of a more active involvement into the integration processes of their member-states, under the coordinative support of the Regional office of the FES in Belgrade. Last week, March 31st, April 1st in Ljubljana, where representatives of all involved trade unions made official the founding of the Regional Trade Union Council named “Solidarnost” with the mission to tackle the series of problems and exchange positive practice for their settlement with the end goal of improving labor, material and social conditions of workers whose interests are represented by the union headquarters. Among other, experts working for this Council will deal with exchange of information and experience in the process of harmonization with the EU standards, promotion of EU standards and ILO Convention, promotion of trade union cooperation at company and level of multinational companies, stimulation of integration processes in the trade union movement, promoting unionism among the youth, promotion of the equal opportunities policy, education of trade union representatives, etc.
The creation of the Regional Council was applauded by the EU Commissioner for Enlargement Štefan Füle and Mr. László Andor, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion. In his letter to the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), Commissioner Füle expressed his interest to be informed of further developments and concrete projects that will be developed within the framework of the Council, given that “social dialogue is an essential component of the EU social policy model and contributes to good governance and social cohesion, in particular in times of crisis. It is very important that social partners in the enlargement countries can participate in the pre-accession process and develop their capacities in order for them to be able to play an active part in the process” says Commissioner Füle in his letter addressed to ETUC General Secretary John Monks. |
