On September 1st 2011 the sixth Session of the Economic and Social Council was held, but first one chaired by the new Minister of Labor and Social Policy Spiro Ristevski. According to the Agenda, the social partners first discussed the draft-text of the Law on European Works Councils for which it was unanimously agreed that needs to be adopted as soon as possible. It was also agreed that the draft-text be considered again by each of the social partners internally and afterwards to discuss any comments and remarks at the next session.
With regard to the next item of the Agenda for determining the lowest wage in Macedonia, members of the Economic and Social Council agreed on the manner in which to proceed towards the optimal solution for getting to the lowest wage amount, and it was agreed that working group be set up immediately, comprised of the social partners, which will be assigned with presenting initial findings on the minimal wage issue and within 30 days the latest to present them in front of the Economic and Social Council.
Rasko Miskoski, President of KSS expressed his satisfaction with the agreement reached at this session. “It is encouraging that the Government remained consistent to the demands of the trade unions to resolve, once for all, this key issue of relevance for the social position for employees“ Miskoski said. „The Resolution to this issue is significant not only for workers, but to employers as well, with the end goal of promoting business climate and generally improving the social stability of the country,“ stated SSM President Zivko Mitrevski. „It is our position that the minimal wage needs to represent an economic category, which is within the competence of the social partners and not a social category that will represent social care, because that is within the competence of the state,” said Dimitar Stojanovski, President of the Employers’ Organization of Macedonia.
Council members also discussed the need for changes and amendments to the Labor Relations Law, which would be proposed at one of the coming sessions of the Economic and Social Council. |
